Senior Learning House

On Monday the 24th of August 2015 the Senior Learning House were fortunate enough to go on a very arty excursion. We went to two of Melbourne’s finest Art galleries: Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).

The NGV was showing a terrific free exhibition for kids called Open House: Tromarama. This exhibition was set in a house with many wonderful elements. It was a super fun exhibition with an upside down dining room with a colourful light dance floor on the ceiling. There was a garden where you could speak into recorders that would play back your voice in a different way. There were also a bathroom and a bedroom where you could use the toys kept in the bathtub to make stop motion videos.

At ACCA we experienced T.V. Moore’s artworks. He made his artwork immersive using the room, flooring, sound, photography and animation to get viewers to think about the relationship humans have with technology. It made us feel many things including “creepy”, “overwhelmed” and “mesmerised”. As an activity in ACCA we made Zoetropes, which are a type of early animation invented in the 19th century. T.V. Moore uses animation a lot in his work.

Overall, everyone had a great time and learned a lot about different Art styles and took home some excellent creative ideas they could use at school and home.
